HealthCity International B.V.
Hoofddorp (NL), Antwerp (B), Cologne (G)
HealthCity is one of the largest sport and fitness centre chains in Europe. The founders of HealthCity - Rene Moos, Eric Wilborts and Dennis Aarts, all of whom have a background in sports - began their business around 20 years ago with the operation of tennis parks. Fitness facilities were added to the parks at a later stage, and this led to various multifunctional facilities in the south and west of the Netherlands which were combined into one organisation under the name of HealthCity in 2004. Capital injections from Waterland from May 2005 have enabled the company to pursue an ambitious growth programme, in the Netherlands as well as in Belgium and Germany.
After more than 20 acquisitions, including Basic-Fit in the Netherlands, Future Sports in Germany, Sportopolis in Belgium, and the 57 clubs van Fitness First in the Benelux, HealthCity has more than 200 clubs and over 400,000 members, giving it the number 1 position in the Dutch and Belgian markets and the number 5 position in Germany. The head office is located in Hoofddorp and the company employs more than 3,000 people.
