Optisport Groep
Gorinchem (NL)
Optisport is the market leader in the development and management of municipal sports centres
on the basis of an exploitation contract, stipulating that the municipality will only pay a
fixed, general contribution for the cost of running the accomodation. Optisport takes care
of the entire operation. The interests of local associations, the accessibility for less
affluent people and, for instance, school swimming classes are guaranteed by the contracts
with the municipality and the Optisport exploitation concept.
Optisport is active in 41 municipalities in The Netherlands and, with a staff of 1100
people, manages approximately 90 facilities, among which are some nationally renowned and
leading sports centres, like the ‘Sloterparkbad’ swimming facility in Amsterdam, a 400-meter
covered skating arena in Breda and ‘Vrijburgbad’, the joint swimming pool of the cities of
Vlissingen and Middelburg.
The co-operation with Waterland has as its objectives to enable the further rapid growth of
Optisport and to expand activities so as to meet consumers’ expectations even better.
Waterland considers Optisport to be a successful, professionally led company in a market
that, thanks to increased outsourcing by local authorities, will experience further strong
growth.
Waterland has a 50% stake in Optisport.
