Waterland appoints Dr. Carsten Rahlfs as Principal

Düsseldorf, 15 January 2014 – Waterland announced today the appointment of Dr. Carsten Rahlfs as Principal and Managing Director of the German branch. He will support the company’s accelerated expansion in the DACH area (Germany, Switzerland and Austria).

As of 1 January 2014, Dr. Carsten Rahlfs (1973) has been appointed as Principal of Waterland and Managing Director of Waterland Private Equity GmbH. As a result of this appointment, Carsten is now member of the Principals Board of Waterland.

Carsten will serve as Managing Director of the German branch next to Managing Director and Managing Principal of the DACH area Jörg Dreisow, who is heading the Munich office.

He will be responsible for managing Waterland’s Düsseldorf office, next to being in charge of a number of German portfolio companies across multiple Waterland funds and target markets within the Waterland investment areas.

“After the opening of the Munich office in October 2013, Waterland is going through an accelerated expansion in the DACH area (Germany, Switzerland and Austria). Since we actively support the companies in which we participate, we are now strengthening the management of the Düsseldorf office with this appointment”, commented Robert Thielen, founder and Chairman of Waterland.

Prior to joining Waterland in 2009, Carsten was Managing Director of the French consumer goods manufacturer Staub Group, being responsible for sales, marketing and supply chain management. Prior to that, as Head of Corporate Development of Zwilling J.A. Henckels AG, Carsten was responsible for the acquisitions of Staub Group (France) and Demeyre NV (Belgium). Before that, Carsten worked at Tchibo GmbH.

Carsten started his career with McKinsey & Company in Hamburg, where he worked mainly in the retail and consumer goods sector.

Carsten obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) and received a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. Pol.) in Finance Theory and Strategic Management, both from the University of Lüneburg, Germany.
